Abstract

This research report presents shipment volume and value forecast and recent quarter review of the greater Chinese notebook PC industry. The report includes shipment volume and value, ASP, manufacturer volume ranking, shipment by tier, shipment by maker, and shipment by price point, and product mix analysis. The content of this report is based on primary data obtained through interviews with notebook PC makers. The report finds that although some notebook PC manufacturers failed to reach shipment goals due to the shortage of some components, the overall greater Chinese notebook PC shipment volume still scored considerable growth in the third quarter of 2009. A major factor affecting the greater Chinese notebook PC shipments in the third quarter of 2009 is the launch of Microsoft's new Windows 7 operating system, which has prompted vendors to advance shipments and has stimulated consumer demand. At the same time though, the market has seen the withholding of purchase anticipating the launch of Windows 7. Boosted by the rollout of new operating system and new CPU platforms, it is projected that a new wave of replacement demand will likely emerge starting in 2010.
